Newcastle greyhound stadium

About Us

Newcastle Greyhound Stadium has been proud to host live greyhound racing for over 89 years. We’ve had the pleasure of hosting the most prominent greyhound event “The All England Cup” for many years and with this upcoming event looking to be the largest to date it’s a great time to visit Newcastle Greyhound Stadium.

Our stadium holds two bars, downstairs is the Lounge offering refreshments, hot food and snacks with direct access to our outdoor viewing area, upstairs we have Winalotz bar with a wide range of drinks and tote betting service with views of the course and access to the terracing.

Gemz Restaurant is located on the same floor as our upstairs bar offering a 3 course meal with table betting and drink service offering the best possible views to cheer your dog to victory.
(Gemz Restaurant must be booked in advance)

When are you open / races held?

Race days are Wednesday (morning), Thursday(evening), Friday (Afternoon) and Saturday (afternoon and evening). Admission is £5.00 on a Thursday and £6.00 on a Saturday evening and Free on a Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoon

Do you cater for large group bookings?

We have 3 large bar areas that can hold large parties and our Restaurant will seat 126 guests.

Do you provide free parking?

Yes! There is FREE parking for cars, mini buses & coaches in front of the stadium in our grounds.

Are children catered for?

Yes, you can take a look at our children’s menu on our ‘restaurant’ page to see what your child would like upon your next visit. However children need to be out the stadium by the last race.

Do you have disabled facilities?

We have a disable lift situated at the entrance to the stadium. Please ask at the turnstiles and one of our security staff will be only too happy to assist.

What is Tote betting?

The minimum stake for this bet is £1. One selects a dog from the field. This can be on any dog at any race meeting. The betting slip can be denoted with the dog’s race card number, or the dogs name (and if at another course, the name of the course), or it can be marked as the ‘favourite’, where the dog is not nominated but the bet is placed on whichever dog is favourite (has the largest amount of money put into the pool) at the start of the race. This will, obviously, have the lowest payout (since the pool will be shared with the largest number of winners) but the assumption is that if others have bet on it, it must have a good chance of winning.

What are your minimum / maximum bet limits?

On most of our betting, the minimum bet is £1 per race. On other’s, it is a minimum bet of 50p.

Can I drink outside?

Yes, but only from plastic containers…please inform the bar staff of your intentions to go outside and they’ll happily provide you with these. NO GLASS in any form is allowed outside of the building.

Is smoking allowed?

There is a strict NO SMOKING policy that operates throughout the interior of our stadium. However, smoking IS ALLOWED on the extensive terracing area which is situated immediately at the trackside.

Do you have a late bar?

We do, Saturday nights only

What time is the last race?

Check our racing page for more information on times and days for racing.

Can I get a taxi from outside?

Please note there are NO taxi ranks at the Stadium, but we have a FREE telephone line to LA Taxis in our foyer area, next to reception. We do recommend that you pre-arrange your transport home, prior to visiting us as local firms do get extremely busy at weekends.

I own a greyhound, how do I race it with you?

You can look at our ‘Racing and Results’ page on our site for more information, or you can ring: 0191 210 5300 for more information about racing your greyhound with us.
